It seems that everywhere you look these days, someone is doing yoga. They range from famous celebrities right down to the person who works with you. If you have never practiced yoga and want to find out what all the fuss is about and how yoga might be of benefit to you then read on and I will explain some of the main benefits of yoga.

First, before we list the benefits, it is important to know what yoga is. Yoga is a science of human development designed to bring physical, mental and spiritual well being to individuals. It was developed in India thousands of years ago and consists of a variety of physical postures, deep relaxation and meditation exercises. The physical postures, known as “asanas” are the most widely practiced part of yoga and are taught widely around the world in gyms and yoga studios.

With this understanding of yoga, let’s turn our attention to three of the most important benefits that you can get if you start to practice yoga.

1. Yoga will help you to become very healthy. This is what people are generally looking for when they begin the practice of yoga, and yoga does the job of improving physical health. If you combine a practice of yoga postures along with a sensible diet and other physical exercise then you can reach very high levels of health and fitness. One of the reasons for this is that yoga can help you to improve the functioning of your digestive system, and prevent acidity, indigestion, constipation and other more serious problems that have their root in the digestive system. Yoga postures (when combined with relaxation and meditation) have the additional benefit of helping to control blood pressure, and this is a great asset as you grow older and become more susceptible to heart disease.

2. Yoga can help you to look better. It is common knowledge that a lot of people practice yoga in order to lose weight and look more attractive. Can yoga really be of help in this? Simply put, outer beauty is but an indication of inner health. If you take steps to improve your health, you will look better. The biological explanation of “beauty” is useful here. According to modern biology, animals (and humans) choose partners who appear to be able to produce offspring and successfully spread their genes. A beautiful appearance here means an appearance that is a sign of inner health and vitality. You may not be thinking about spreading genes when you see a beautiful man or woman but this is where our conceptions of beauty originate according to the biologists. Thus, the ability of yoga to make you feel better and have better overall health, will also give you an outer appearance that is more pleasing to everyone around you.

3. Yoga can help you to deal with stress. Living in the 21st Century is stressful. There is a biological cause to our predicament. When primitive humans were threatened, their bodies started pumping hormones and blood and got them ready to either fight for their lives or run away from danger. We have inherited this same kind of body and this is problematic for us. If you are running or fighting for your life it may be OK to sweat and turn red, but it doesn’t look so good when you are in a stressful meeting at work with your colleagues.

Yoga postures, deep relaxation and meditation all combine to help you achieve an inner state of peace that will enable you to function steadily and calmly even in the most stressful environment.

There are many more things that I can say about the benefits of yoga, but these three should be incentive enough for you to check it out and maybe to start practicing today.

The power of the human mind is undisputed; it goes back to the teachings of Aristotle, and is one of the fundamental images of humanity; the person with the plan solving the problem, getting play in myths from Theseus to Batman. It’s also a power you can harness to create the life you want.

By now, we have heard of The Secret. Whether you are one of the millions that bought the book and watched the movie or not, you have to know that it all dealt with the Law of Attraction. The Law of Attraction, which everyone by now knows that the basis is you will attract what it is you think about, the main point is that your mind will manifest whatever you think about. What most people don’t realize is that this happens whether you actively make it happen or not.

In the medical world, this is known as the Placebo Effect; people who are told they’re taking a medicine will get the benefits of that medicine even if they’re given a sugar pill. This happens about 40% of the time and is something clinical trials have to correct for. Similarly, the adage of ‘Mind Over Matter’ holds some credence as well. This is how you’ve seen people think themselves sick, or think themselves well.

While the singular of data is not anecdote, there is some direct experience you’ve had. How many times have you woken up in the morning thinking this was going to be a bad day, or ‘one of those days’. And then had a self-fulfilling prophecy? Welcome to the Law of Attraction on a personal scale. It’s your own mind and your own expectations sabotaging you.

Quantum mechanics talks about the ‘observer effect’ and how information in the system alters the outcomes. While the link between quantum mechanics and The Secret is tenuous, the same guiding principle applies to the Law of Attraction. Your ability to observe the universe alters it.

Many scientists now believe that all so called ’supernatural’ powers such as esp, telepathy, remote viewing, psychic and clairvoyant phenomena can be explained in terms of quantum theory. In short – everything we see, hear and feel is merely a creation of our thoughts! Nothing is solid; it is all energy and this energy has been created by the power of our minds.

Although you may not even have considered it before; learning how to use the power of your mind is vitally important to having a great life! Obviously it is better to have your assets working for you instead of working against you. Let’s take a closer look at how to use the power of your mind to achieve what you want.

Start with a goal. Visualize it clearly in your mind. Make it a goal with boundaries; for example, if you’re thinking about money, don’t think of the goal in the context of ‘A lot of money’. Put a dollar figure on it. Make it a real goal, with precision. Once the goal is set, focus your mental actions on achieving that goal. Keep the effort constant; don’t do it in bursts and lags.

The sign of someone who’s goal focused is that they’re very driven. They work each and every moment towards some goal, rather than frittering their time away in unstructured pursuits. When they’re working on a goal, they’re driving towards it, rather than do it a little bit, then get distracted by something else. This puts the full power of their mind on the goal, and every little step helps further it. It’s one of those things that’s so difficult because it’s simple. People expect life changing events to be more involved than ‘Make a goal, and stick with it.’

Imagine completely altering your life by actively taking part in the influence your mind has on your reality. Say that you wanted a new house. You want that new house so much that it almost becomes an obsession. You think about it all the time, you have even planned the landscape and the color of the master bathroom. Everything you do has to do with getting that house. It could be improving your performance at work, clocking the commute from that new house to your job, looking at paint at the local Home Depot, reading up on how to get a good mortgage. You might even start buying a few small things for that new house.

And eventually, if you follow through, you will get everything you want. You’ll have a base of knowledge that you can use to further your career, and a foundation in how to learn independently to make your future endeavors more efficient. On top of that, you’ll have ample evidence that a positive attitude and setting goals can get you anywhere in life. All of your energy focused through the Law of Attraction can be quite potent.

You can do this. Stop just letting life happen to you, make it happen for you. Decide on a small goal at first. Clearly define that goal. Do not doubt the power of your mind and you will be amazed at what happens!

In my last article, “What Yoga Clothes Should I Wear To A Bikram Yoga Class”?, we talked about the fact that Bikram Yoga is a type of hot room yoga and as such might need a very particular type of yoga clothing. In this article I want to delve a little further into this subject and get somewhat more specific. Here are a few things you may want to consider when purchasing yoga clothing for you next Bikram Yoga class.

Yoga Pants Clearly there are several different types of yoga pants. You’ve probably seen those that are full length as well as the Capri type that end just below your knee. Of course, you can always just opt for wearing shorts as well.

Obviously you are going to have to choose between a more form fitting style and those flowing yoga pants that are so popular. The form fitting ones are great because they offer an opportunity for your instructor to be able to spot whether or not you are performing the poses right or not.

The thing about the flowing yoga pants is that they are able to hide those areas of your body that you don’t want just anyone to see. Perhaps you are modest or feel you will look a lot better later.

Yoga Wear Tops Youll have to have similar conditions in mind when buying yoga tops as when buying yoga pants. Namely, do you want them form fitting or loose and flowing? You might want to pick up a nice t-shirt style top, made of linen or cotton, perhaps with an Om symbol on it if that suits your style.

You’ll find an almost infinite supply of designs of your yoga wear top so it should be relatively easy to find something for your next Bikram yoga class.

Yoga Shoes Most people dont even bother with this sort of item, preferring instead to practice barefoot. That said, you may want to look into some sort of comfortable footwear just in case you decide you want to practice on some stony beachmaybe in the Caribbean? Just a thought.

You could wear something loose and free like cotton soled tai chi shoes. Or even something with a little more support. Both Puma and Adidas make specialized footwear designed specifically for yoga enthusiasts.

To close, just make certain that you yoga clothes you buy are fun, comfortable, and of yes, practical. At the end of the day, you’ll be glad you did.

I assume you already know what yoga is if you are looking around to buy cheap yoga mats online. But if not, here is a short definition.

The ancient Indian system of exercise known as yoga uses certain body postures and deep breathing to stretch your body, whether you are lying, sitting or even standing up.

Even if you are looking to just buy cheap yoga mats (as opposed to the more expensive alternatives) they have to suit your own purposes. It absolutely must be comfortable or else all your practice will be useless. It makes breathing slowly into the postures that much easier.

How do you know what sort of quality to look for in buying good yoga mats? Sturdiness is certainly a key feature, if only to insure that you don’t have to buy a new on year after year.

Make absolutely sure that it offers you enough strength and durability to go along with that sturdiness. Every cheap yoga mat must be able to stop you from slipping around as you practice whatever yoga system you do in your studio or at home. You don’t want to risk the very real possibility of injury.

While you can probably spend upwards to fifty dollars for high quality yoga mats, somewhere between $10 and $50 should a comfortable range for you. Again, don’t skimp on this if you don’t have to.

Available in many styles and colors, traditional yoga mats can be made of a variety of materials. Things such as jute, linen, and cotton have been used for centuries. In fact you often see yogis sitting on materials like tiger skins or white deer skins. However if you are serious in your practice you want to forgo these endangered species for a more modern approach.

When you are searching online for cheap yoga mats try to find modern materials that have a bit if traction to them. I like environmentally safe and easily recyclable mats just in case I need to ever dispose of it.

I like to get a yoga mat that is simple to wash as I tend to sweat a great deal when I practice Bikram yoga. You will find a number of offline and online locations for buying your mats, just look around before purchasing. Clearly the amount of dough you are going to shell out is up to you, just be sure to get the right model for you to insure your comfort.
