Many people forget that important changes come from within. This means starting off with a clear mind, so that you not only know what the end of the journey looks like, but are able to plan a better more effectively. This means a route with a reduced risk of encountering hardships along the way.

Think of it this way, if you got onto a plane in New York and were flying to Great Britain wouldn’t you want that the pilot to have a flight plan (map) and a clearly planned digital route (another map) before they took the plane thousands of feet into the air?

When desiring to make definitive changes in your life, you’ll discover that traditional ways of setting goals are just not sufficient. Think back to the times you may have sat down with a pen and paper, or sat in front of your computer, and typed up a list of objetives which you felt were important at that particular time in your life.

This process may have taken you a while as you mulled over what you actually wanted to do you may even have put your proyects in order of priority. You might have deliberated for some time over how you could achieve your goals, but then when you had finished making your list and re-read it once, you just it filed away out of sight away from possible future reference? Why hide the future from yourself?

In a lecture, I once had a teacher say that one of the greatest problems people had in completing projects was getting ready to get ready. At some point, you make a plan and then you act on it. It’s not the plan that’s the problem, the problem is in the plan’s execution.

If you are absolutely honest with yourself, how many times did your list get used for reference purposes? How many times did it even see the light of day?

How long after you got knocked about, when something bad happened, and then forgot all about what you really wanted out of life?

Even more importantly, did you deliberately focus on each goal until you could almost see it, touch it and sense it?

Most of us have great intentions to better ourselves. We all wish to self-motivate, improve our self-discipline, and have a stronger sense of purpose.

We would all like to increase that vital sense of drive and passion for life. That would make it so much easier for us to achieve our aims, and the simple reality is that we can.

Medical professionals have documented many of the health issues related to, or blamed on obesity and have recently concluded the connection between obesity and infertility. There are many possible causes for infertility, but studies have shown obese women, those with a body mass index over 30, generally have inconsistent menstrual cycles, leading to inconsistent ovulation, reducing the chances of becoming pregnant.

Irregular cycles and inconsistent ovulation aren’t the only problems which obese women face in regards to fertility. Polysystic Ovarian syndrome is a serious problem which greatly reduces fertility levels, and it’s often seen in obese women. In-vitro fertilization is frequently a failure in obese women. It’s now been revealed that obesity, diabetes, and by efforts to use in-vitro fertilization to become pregnant are often unsuccessful in obese women. It is becoming increasingly clear that obesity, diabetes, and hyperinsulinemia are making a severe negative impact on women’s fertility levels.

Other studies which show a connection between obesity and reduced fertility levels reveal that obese women with irregular ovulation and more immature eggs have a higher risk of ectopic pregnancy. The causes of many of the problems with obesity and infertility are being translated into many of the problems associated with pregnancies in obese women.

As research continues to further understand the connection between obesity and infertility, hypothyroidism is also being examined to determine if there is a connection. Many obese people, male and female with thyroid problems also suffer from obesity, but the connection between the thyroid, obesity and infertility are still being studied, the thyroid plays a large role in pregnancy for women as well as the health of the fetus.

The Victorian Era came with calling cards to introduce yourself to your host. The closest thing we have to do that today is business cards but we are talking social not business here.

In those days, entertaining was made easy and carefree by the use of butlers, maids and cooks. A host would just have to decide on the menu, the guest list and which china service to use and all the remaining details would be completed behind the scenes by a team of people. The rules of etiquette from the host and hostess, the guests and the staff were well laid out and everyone was very aware of their place and role. Although it was highly structured, it did not lack any ambiguity of rules of etiquette that we are found with today.

Today, the emphasis is no longer on the pretentiousness of the Victorian era, but rather making sure that both guests and hosts are relaxed, and that they enjoy each other, without interruptions by graceless and boorish behavior. This means that etiquette is still around but do know that good manners are still in fashion.

Sending out a dinner party invitation used to mean that it had to be engraved, and accepting one meant that you RSVPd back in writing as well. Today, it is still not quite good etiquette to send a dinner party invitation via email, though it seems as if even this custom is dwindling.

During the past it was custom to dress in your finest apparel in order to be accepted into the right social settings. A refusal to adhere to these strict rules could easily have you removed from future social affairs and that was a kiss of death socially. Today we are more apt to host a more casual dinner party but that does not mean that breaking of the dressing etiquette rules would not result in the same kiss of death.

The social etiquette in the past were very simple to adhere to. The rules were very specific in regards to a requirement or not for bringing a hostess gift and how. Protocol and the correct manners also addressed situations such as the correct window of time for arriving and departing a dinner party and the rules of behavior while in a hosts home. Gentlemen knew the requirements on how to conduct yourself with a lady that included pulling the lady’s seat out before sitting themselves. A lady also knew which cutlery to use for each course and how to correctly fold your napkin. Today our social rules are more open and vague but do not neglect to learn the current rules or think that they have been abolished all together.

The act of a man standing when a lady rises from the table is not an outdated custom and still considered polite today. An area of custom that was never part of the etiquette rules are how we address technology. When entering a host’s home it is polite to turn off your ringer of all cell phones and only accept emergency phone calls. If you are expecting a potential emergency call it is polite to inform your host upon your arrival. Keeping your phone on vibrate in case of potential issues with babysitters is acceptable but keep in mind that should a call come in during your dinner party you are required to excuse yourself to a private location and not take the call in the presence of others.

Hostesses need to be prepared to anticipate the food needs of their guests. It is acceptable to ask ahead of time whether your guests have any dietary restrictions to avoid confusion and stress on the day of the party. If you guest should give you an unexpected dietary requirement, graciously do your best to meet the requirement. The consumption of alcohol is a delicate topic and hosts need to do their best to ensure that nobody exceeds their limits. This is an area that crosses social etiquette into legal and moral issues.

Granted everyone commits a faux pas on occasion, and the trick is to not allow it to ruffle you but instead excuse yourself once and continue onward, and if you maintain good manners, chances are that you will receive future work-related or social engagements once more.

Shoes in the 50’s really completed the get-up for ladies. Still today, if you are dressing up for a Halloween party or local Sock Hop themed dance, you need the right shoes and socks to get your outfit just right.

Heals and flats were really en vogue during the 50’s. Saddle oxfords are the traditional footwear that completed a poodle skirt outfit. These were worn on dated, school and any everywhere else. Combining the comfort of the saddle oxford and the flair of the poodle skirt made the perfect outfit for any dance or get together. Oxfords were white and black and usually worn with white shoe laces.

Flats were also popular. The ‘ballet’ shoe was a common flat worn by girs to school and church. Often they would be worn with white socks with lace that was folded over at the ankle.

Penny loafers were also a hit during this time period. These were flats worn by both men and women. They are much like the loafers worn today but they had a slit that was located toward the top of the shoe that you could put a penny in. If the shoes were really cool sometimes you could fit a quarter in it.

Many believe that the most popular shoe of the 1950’s was the stiletto-healed shoe. Some being as high as 5 inches, they came in both open and closed (and pointy) toed variaties. They were first seen at the Dior Fashion Show in 1952 and really made a splash for the next decade or so.

Saddle oxfords and oxfords are different. These were also worn by both men and women. Many referred to these as Balmorals, and they came in the same style as saddle shoes, but didn’t necessarily have to be black and white, but all kinds of colors.

A popular type of high heel was Mary Janes. These came in all different heights and colors. They typically had strap that went over the top of the foot. These were worn almost anywhere: church, parties, dates, sock hops and shopping.

Bobby socks were among the most popular style of shoe accessory. Folded over at the ankle, bobby socks actually started in the late 1940’s as a key element of the school uniform. Later, they became popular with loafers, oxfords or saddle shoes.
